We offer the following services here at Osborne Jones Log burner & Stoves
The simple answer is yes you can.
With the right information, training and up to date regulation knowledge you can most definitely install one yourself but we would highly recommend getting someone who is Heta’s trained and registered to undertake your installation for you. Whether that is us, or another company our recommendation will always be a Heta’s engineer.
The saying, “Just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should” comes to mind. There are so many different reason’s why you should not self install but this does not mean you can’t.
Booking one of our Heta’s engineer’s to carry out the installation is obviously going to be the most safest and can also surprisingly be cheaper than self installing, as 90% of the time costly mistakes are made without the correct training and regulation knowledge. This means that any installation you carry out yourself, could be non compliant and you would need to remove the installation immediately.
The answer to this is No! There are many options to consider if you do not have a chimney. One option would be an external twin wall flue system. This is where a flue system would exit through an external wall and up the side of your property. You may have seen these systems on other houses locally. You can opt for a stainless-steel flue system or a stylish matt black colour.
You can also have an internal flue going up through your house and exiting through you roof. This option is good if you like the look of a free-standing stove that is not against an external wall. Gone are the days of needing a chimney to have a log burner.
You should get your logburner serviced and swept atleast once a year. If you are using your logburner or stove throughout the year then it is required that you get your serviced / sweep booked in twice yearly. This is to ensure you are safe from chimney fires and blockages. It is also important as this is usually a stated under any home insurance policy.
Yes! As long as your log burner is installed by someone who is part of the Heta’s brand then they will ensure your log burner is installed safely and all compliance is met.
The answer is Yes, but again this could cost more money and delay an installation. All log burners have their own regulations and requirements so there is no “one fits all” available.
If you purchase a stove and your fireplace opening is not adequate for the stove, your hearth is the wrong size, or the space is wrong then it won’t pass our compliance tests. Another problem could be its output. If your room size does not match the stove’s output this will mean the stove will either not heat the room or get so hot it would make it uncomfortable then you might have to return the stove after a survey of your home has been complete.
We would recommend booking a survey and asking one of our Heta’s installer his or her recommendation. You will then have a good idea on which stoves to look for and what option would best suit you and your home.
Yes! New regulations mean lots of all new stove’s being made all comply with Defra and the new clean air strategy. If you live in a clean air zone, then getting an eco-design or Defra approved stove is a great option with less smoke and less emissions. Wood burning stoves are even Carbon Neutral.
Yes, all log burners need to be signed off by your local council in order to comply with building regulations. Heta’s Engineers are trained so they can sign this off for you. Once the work and installation is complete, the engineer will notify your local council of the installation and issue you with a registration certificate of compliance.
This can vary hugely. It will all come down to the following. Is there a chimney? Do you require a hearth? What is the size of the room you want to heat? Do you want to burn wood, or do you want to burn coal too? Would you like an oak beam? Would you want brick slips or tiles installed around your new stove?
When it come’s to our service, we can create any type of installation from a simple install to a full chimney breast construction and build.
Costs can start from around £550 for a simple installation all the way up to £5000+ for a specialist installation, like a full chimney construction, stove and flue supply and fit service and internal tile’s / brick slips.
On average our complete package deals cost around £2500-£3000. Please bare in mind that every customer is different but we hope this will give you a fair idea of what you would expect to pay if you decided our company was the right fit for your needs.
